Spills

Spills are inevitable.  However, few homeowners know what to do next.  Some well-intentioned homeowners actually make bad situations much worse by attempting to remove tough spots themselves before seeking expert advice.  Many spills, which would easily be removed by a trained professional with an understanding of the chemistry involved and the correct products, can become permanent stains when treated with the wrong substances.  Some types of dyes are permanently set into carpet fibers by the exact same products that completely remove other types of spots.  Professionals recommend that do-it-yourselfers try nothing stronger than water or club soda before seeking professional help.

Dust mites

Dust mites are microscopic insects that live in carpets, pillows, and other bedding; they eat dead flakes of human or pet skin.  Dust mites need moisture to survive; they thrive in the high humidity of summer.  Some people are allergic to dust mite feces that become airborne during vacuuming.  Carpet cleaning removes many, but not all, of the dust mites and can therefore help allergic individuals.  (See the duct cleaners/indoor air quality companies section for more information.)
